59th Annual Symposium

The 59th Annual Symposium hosted by Boeing and Alaska Airlines will be September 30 – October 4, 2019 in Seattle, Washington, USA.


As always, this year's Symposium will offer the latest innovation in airline operations research and analytics. Various topics to be discussed include airline operations, airline strategy, cargo logistics, crew scheduling, e-commerce, information technology, OR management, revenue management, robust planning, and scheduling planning.


"We have several exciting workshops planned for this year’s symposium” Rodrigo Acuna-Agost, the Symposium Technical Co-Chair explains. “The main novelty for this year is that we will be more explicit in encouraging submissions on artificial intelligence and machine learning to enrich our technical program. We are aiming to grow the AGIFORS community with new members creating synergies on complementary fields. As a consequence, we will better serve the new challenges and emerging use cases originated by the increasing amount of data generated by the airline industry.”


Representatives from airlines, air transport associations, universities, industrial research labs, and consultants will discuss new ideas and present technical papers. The conference includes a vendor program for you to review the latest products. Come and share with us your ideas, thoughts, current trends, philosophies, and latest technological advances on any of the above or related topics.

A block of deluxe king rooms has been arranged at the Fairmont Olympic for USD 239 per night (excluding a USD 2.00 per room per night Seattle Tourism Assessment Tax and a 15.6% Room Tax).  This rate is available three days prior and three days after the Symposium and includes complimentary high speed internet.  These rates are available until August 29, 2019. An early departure fee of USD 120 will be charged for guests who depart prior to their confirmed departure date and do not notify the hotel of the departure date change before September 29, 2019.

Technical Presentation requirements

  • 25 minutes presentation, Q&A excluded
  • Willingness to comply with requests for additional information and clarification on abstract and/or presentation material
  • Willingness to tailor a presentation for the AGIFORS Symposium audience (of which a large percentage are airline crew/operations/ revenue management/network & schedule managers and operations research practitioners) and to accept directions from the selection committee in doing this
  • Must register and attend the symposium
  • No live demos (screenshots are fine insofar as they illustrate or help visualize concepts or demonstrate results)
  • No reference to any commercial product
  • Supported presentation formats are ppt(x) and pdf

If you have any scheduling or other constraints, please refer them as soon as possible. We will attempt to comply with them as best possible. Preference will be given based on the order of abstract submission.

On Wednesday evening, we will have dinner on a privately chartered boat while cruising the harbor and seeing the Seattle Waterfront.

General Information

Conference Attire

Business casual attire is appropriate for all business sessions and the Welcome Reception. Please bring a light sweater or jacket as meeting rooms can be cool. Casual dress is appropriate for the afternoon/evening social event; please wear comfortable shoes.

 

More formal attire (suite and tie) is expected for the Gala Banquet on Thursday evening.

Individuals who need to ship materials can work with the UPS Store located inside the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Transportation

The Seattle Fairmont Olympic is located approximately 15 miles from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.  In addition to taxis and transportation network companies (like Uber and Lyft), there is a light rail line that connects the airport to downtown.  The hotel is located two blocks from the University Street Station (walk up the steep hill to the hotel).
