    The winners for the 2021 Anna Valicek medal have been decided!

    Silver: Ingeborg de Pater, from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, has been recognized by AGIFORS as Winner of the 2021 Anna Valicek Award and was presented (virtually) with the Silver Anna Valicek Medal for the paper Predictive maintenance for multi-component systems of repairables with remaining-useful-life prognostics and a limited stock of spare components.

    Bronze: Greta Laage, from IVADO Labs and École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada, has been recognized by AGIFORS as Second Place Winner of the 2021 Anna Valicek Award and was presented (virtually) with the Bronze Anna Valicek Medal for the paper Assessing the impact: Does an improvement to a revenue management system lead to an improved revenue?"

    Professor John-Paul Clarke, a long-time member of AGIFORS who has twice served on the AGIFORS Council (as Communications Officer and Secretary) was appointed Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Cayman Airways. His two-year appointment by the Cabinet of the Cayman Islands commenced on the 23rd of August. Professor Clarke is well known throughout the airline community for his expertise in the areas of airline schedule planning and operations control. Notably, he has been a fixture at the Airline Operations Study Group for many years. The current AGIFORS Council congratulates Professor Clarke on his appointment.

    From a total of 12 submitted articles the 2021 Anna Valicek Award Committee has selected the two finalists for the 2021 Anna Valicek Award:

    While 2021 is still very much a year full of iuncertainty due to COVID-19, we expect the year 2022 to be more stable and easy to plan for. Therefore, AGIFORS has already now fixed a date for the Symposium 2022, which will be held in person from 12SEP-16SEP. In the meantime, stay posted for updates on the 2021 Symposium as well as the Study Group conferences!

    AGIFORS as well as the whole airline industry can look back at a year full of tremendous change - its impact, risks and opportunities explored in great depths in the 2020 Symposium. In the article "How COVID-19 is impacting and reshaping the airline industry" published in the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management, Laurie Garrow and Virginie Lurkin give an overview of key themes emerging in the key note addresses and RM panel discussions.
